Coronado Area Council Announces 100th Anniversary Committee
The Coronado Area Council is pleased to announce the formation of its 100th Anniversary Committee. Chaired by Eagle Scout and Salina Area Chamber of Commerce President, Dennis Lauver, the committee will be tasked with coordinating the Council's efforts to celebrate the centennial celebrations of the Boy Scouts of America. Key sub-committee chairs have also been recruited.
Past Council President and Eagle Scout Jim Waters will chair the Generations Connections sub-committee. This committee will help promote the planting of trees across the council to commemorate the centennial year while providing for future generations. Mr. Waters currently chairs the council's Endowment Committee and owner of Waters True Value Hardware stores.
Eagle Scout Aaron Peck from Salina will serve as the Alumni Connections Chair. Mr. Peck's committee will be in charge of coordinating several gathering of Eagle Scouts and past Scouters to "reconnect" with Scouting. These gatherings will be spread throughout the council's territory in order to provide the best opportunity for our alumni to attend. Mr. Peck is a financial advisor in Salina at Weems & Peck Financial Strategies.
The National Hall of Leadership is a nation-wide recognition program to nominate individuals that have made a significant difference in the lives of youth. The nominations are submitted online to a national website
. Submissions from our council will then be screened by this committee. The honorary chair for the National Hall of Leadership committee is Representative Jerry Moran.
Mark your calendars for October 8-10, 2010! This will be the date for the Coronado Area Council's 100th Anniversary event. This is slated to be be the biggest event we have ever had. In addition to camping, there will be program and activities for all ages of Scouting as well as the community. This event will be the signature celebrations for our Council. Past Council President Robert Russell has agreed to chair this celebration.
